What is this green water in my Brita filter?!?
(Los Angeles) From time to time, my water filter BRITA water turns green at the bottom. I have cleaned filter several times and changed the filter itself. Is my filter algae growing or something or is that the filter is not going to make something out of my faucet? This is the second time that has happened and have not exceeded the lifetime of both filters. Is this green thing is going to make me sick? I could have drunk a cup or two without realizing it.
I imagine that the green color is copper pipe and is probably not from algae unless the source is not filtered. Algae and green would be there only if there a source of light. I would not live without electricity and some food and so would be brown. Copper oxides would be green, like an old penny, as the interior of copper pipes old who is the only material that most municipalities in the U.S. for water service at home. Always amused me, here anyway, that the city can run PE pipe to your house, often iron pipe, however, requires copper lines with silver-based soldier home in no case more (With reason).
