What should I check / change on a diesel truck with 134K miles?
I just bought a Ford F350 diesel truck 92 7.3L with 134K miles and RV fifth wheel as a combined package. I want to make sure the truck is well maintained and reviewed. What should I do? I have been told to add some fuel to eliminate water and filter change, but I'm not sure what filters are in a diesel. This is my first diesel truck. Fifth wheel trailer, you can not maintain 65 uphill fifth wheel weighs about 9,000 pounds. The owner told me it was normal. Just curious to know if that is correct.
The 92 7.3L is NOT a power stroke is a naturally aspirated engine (NO TURBO). These engines use a mechanical lift pump on the side of the block when it went wrong would have started to fade and have problems to provide full fuel pressure and volume of the injection pump. Visually inspect the lift pump for leaks. Fuel Filter located just above the pump and elevator, a water trap at the bottom of it, the trap of water should be drained every oil change or when the light on the dashboard lights. DO NOT add a drying agent for its fuel, the fuel for these trucks are today is much more to dry for now, this is due to government mandate changes Fuel (the removal of sulfur) 99% of sulfur has been removed from the fuel they were designed to operate with a fuel that results in almost no lubrication on what can cause sticking or seizure of the injectors from excessive wear in the ppump injection and the seizure of the piston of the throttle on the side of the pump injection (beginning to see where their lack of power comes from?) Stanadyne who designed and built this system has a lubricant injection of diesel fuel that are added several ounces to each tank of fuel burned to provide adequate lubrication for the injection system (part # 29 409 Stanadyne) buy and use as directions … after a fuel tank with the additive and injector pump must be working properly, if not book in diagnosis. Most of these diesel engines could hold 65 pulling a load to a reasonable extent, however, if you have a high speed rear differential that might be normal to lose to a degree. Keep the filter clean air (vital for a diesel). Diesel is very hard in the coolant, pick up some pH test strips and check your antifreeze every oil change, when it becomes fatty add a bottle of coolant additive diesel dealer the second time that the coolant becomes acidic cleaning the system and replace fluid cooling, failing to do this will leave a sour and acid circulation flowing in the metal accumulates an electrical charge that is discharged against shirts, water pump, heater core and rad causing leaks and pin holes (this is known as elctrolysis technical Diesel caused the failure).
